Heart Surgery

Because children have smaller hearts and blood vessels than adults, they need doctors who have advanced pediatric training and use child-size instruments. Children also require special sedation and monitoring because of their size, age and differing ability to understand what is happening to them.

At the Rocky Mountain Pediatric Heart Surgery Center at the RMHC at P/SL, we have the expertise and equipment to make your child’s treatment or procedure as comfortable and safe as possible.

Common Pediatric Heart Surgeries

• Atrial and Ventricular Septal Defects
• Atrioventricular Canal
• Tetralogy of Fallot
• Transposition of The Great Arteries
• Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome and other forms of Single Ventricle Anatomy

Please note we do not perform heart transplants.

Procedures to fix these pediatric heart conditions may be performed in a specially equipped cardiac catheterization lab or a traditional operating room. Your pediatric cardiologist or pediatric heart surgeon will determine the most appropriate setting for your child's procedure.
