Emergency air transportation is available from outside the Denver area, serving patients throughout Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, South Dakota, and Wyoming. Our qualified team picks up seriously or critially ill babies and children, as well as women with high-risk pregnancies, either by ambulance or AirLIFE Helicopter. The helicopter pad at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children at P/SL gets a lot of use because our NICU is the largest in the region. We take the critically ill children born all over this part of the country and help them heal. These transport nurses are trained to handle very critical situations. NICU Manager Carrie Chambers, RN, says these nurses end up saving many lives.
"Those special transport nurses not only bring the babies here, they also take them back home. If a child is well enough to leave the NICU at P/SL, a transport nurse will make sure they get to their home town hospital healthy and happy."
With helicopter, fixed-wing, and ground transport capabilities, our Emergency Transport Team is staffed and equipped to deal with emergent patient needs. Our transport equipment is designed for infants and children with room for incubator, special gases, and ventilator equipment.

Some children come from outside the hospital and have to be transported to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children at P/SL in Denver. To make sure those sick children are cared for, P/SL has nine, specially trained transport nurses and a team of respiratory therapists.
